Okay, I don't care what anybody says. This is my new favorite Céline Dion song, and I think she looks SUPER cute in this video. Hell, it was the 80s! Everyone wore weird shit. I still think she looks cute! It's the hair. I think it looks better that way. XDDD

Here's a pretty song:

Also I had a feeling the book was The Lady of Shalot because of the boat scene but hahaha, the only reason I had that feeling was because of Anne of Green Gables anyway.

So I was listening to the radio a couple weeks ago, heard this song, was like, "God that's the saddest song I've ever heard." I looked it up, it's a tribute to the artist's brother, who died in Iraq. I thought it might have been a father-->son song but it's still sad as heck.

Note: It's a country song obviously, if you hate country, you probably won't like it.

So I heard this on the radio the other day and was impressed. I would never have assumed this was a country song. It doesn't sound very country at all.

This describes a relationship pretty well I think. Anyway, a cute song.

Know you are not alone,
I am in this too,
This is us,
This is me and you.

Also, even though that Two Black Cadillacs song is catchy, I really hate it. I'm so sick of songs about someone being done wrong so they turn around and get revenge. I don't know why this bothers me. It's not like good-revenge, it's just really douchey revenge. Why are there so many songs about keying someone's car? This one is about the women being done wrong killing the guy.

I guess it's my personal feelings getting in the way of letting me enjoy the song. I mean, it IS catchy, and well-written, and it's a good SONG, but it tells a downright awful story and it's not a story told so that you feel it's awful, it's a story where you're supposed to be ROOTING FOR BOTH WOMEN. It's like, ugh, I hate this shit. And death is irreversible, it's not up to us to decide who lives and dies (within certain limits, obviously in a war people will be killing other people); petty revenge is just stupid as shit.

Bleh.

Thanks for all the links/recs guys. :D I really appreciate it.

I managed to talk myself out of doing something stupid today. Almost bought a 3DS. I secretly wanted one all along but I don't need to spend that kind of money. /slaps self. I have too many bills for that.

Over the years I realized I have three favorite songs. The order has changed, but:

#1: The Story, cover by Cranius (way better than the original IMO)(note: video is a WoW video but ignore that). This song just...wow. His voice is really great--he sings this song so convincingly the first couple times I heard it, I might have cried (or I was cutting up a really manly onion). There's a reason I can't stop using this song for journal layouts.

#2: Top of the World, by The Carpenters. This song means a lot to me. My mother used to sing it all the time when I was a kid...and the first time I saw a cassette tape of the Carpenters wasn't until CDs existed, and they had it for like $3 or something at WalMart. I begged my mom for it, and I listened to that cassette tape until it wasn't any good anymore.

#3: At the Beginning, by Richard Marx and Donna Lewis. I actually found this song through an InuYasha AMV years ago--the first large file I ever downloaded online. Sadly it's since been lost BUT once I realized what this song was from I took the CD out of the library and copied it onto my computer. This used to be my favorite song but it's since fell to the third slot because it just can't beat the other two in my mind. However, it still holds a lot of nostalgia for me, and honestly, I do love duets.

...the funny thing is that I consider myself exceptionally practical and non-romantic but my top three favorite songs are about love. HAH. Well. Whatever. The best songs ever. :3

LOL.

Aaaaaaaaaaand I picked up Tales of Symphonia again!!!! I forgot how much I suck at the game. Or how much grinding I should be doing. Note to self: don't skip mobs, you need the XP. BADLY.

Dear Raine, stop wasting heals when I don't need them, and start healing before people actually die. Also stop saying SORRY GUYS when you die. It sounds so insincere. LOL.

Also

You know you're at the EPITOME OF NERDDOM when you start writing notes on a game you're playing. JUST SAYING.

Ugh, what is time? Where does it go? I have two papers due Monday (one is just a rough draft though, thank God), and an exam to study for.

For Sociology (the final paper which is due), I picked to write about this song:

Unfortunately getting citeable information on this song is really hard. Someone said that in a CMT Insider interview, Big Kenny and John Rich said that the song was written for both of their sisters, who were survivors of domestic abuse relationships, but in the song, only Charlene, Kenny's sister, is mentioned. Since the interview link on CMT's website is broken, I guess I'll go with just Charlene, but okay. They've faded so much in popularity as a bad since 2004 that finding any information on them, least of all on Holy Water, which was never very popular anyway, is just insane. :/

--

I have a lot of work to do for my analysis class, too. :/ Seriously, finding some deep hidden meaning in everything is stressful and frankly, a bad practice. I understand why they want people to learn it, but still. Sigh.

--

I'm mostly just concerned about this Soc paper, and it's so dark I can't even concentrate to get writing done. I'll probably do it tomorrow, but I've almost got the outline done and at least I have all of my information together. I just need to kind of patch it all together into one piece of work.

And History. I NEED to do well on that test because my brother always gets perfect scores in History classes because he fucking retains information like a badass. My mind is more like a sieve, which is sad. :/ We covered Sumeria to Rome for this exam and honestly that's too much info too fast for me!! 25 multiple choice questions which won't be too hard, but also an essay, so I have a lot of extra reading to do to refresh my memory of Augustus because frankly, 2/3 essays that we could get are about him, so even though as a professor I would totally pick the 3rd one (Egyptian/Middle Eastern religion vs. Roman/Greek religions) to throw people off, I bet anything she picks something about Augustus since we had to read a separate book on him.

Hmmm so I have to pick a song for sociology to... I guess write a paper about. The song has to deal with sociological issues in some way, iirc.

I have a whole list of things I could do, for example:

-anything by Daniel Balavoine almost. He pretty much sang (SOB THE PAST TENSE SOB) about revolution, anti-racism, divorce, et cetera. So many things that could be considered a sociological issue.

-Say It's Possible--Terra Naomi. About global warming. The good thing about this song is that it sounds like a love song which says something about our culture (that most of us wouldn't look further).

-Weeping--Josh Groban. Not originally sung by him but I like his version better; it just sounds more...heartfelt for some reason. Lots of emotion in it. About wars in Africa if I remember right.

-Bittersweet Symphony--The Verve, which I've heard is about pushing others down to better yourself, which is somewhat related to sociology as that is one type of accepted belief, social conflict.

-Fast Car--Tracy Chapman, which is about city life or sommat.

-Factory--Bruce Springsteen. I've love to use this one but I'm not 100% sure how I could incorporate it into sociology except via functionalism, i.e., we need factories. But then I could also use The Day They Closed the Factory Down--Harry Chapman.

And the classic "Jeremy--Pearl Jam", which...everyone and their gramma will pick, I bet. One song per student so what you pick nobody else can use. Not sure how they'll manage that though.

Any thoughts? Or other song ideas?

The disadvantage to doing Balavoine, btw, is he's French and so all information about him, regarding him, and the meaning/deeper things re: his music, are in French. I'm not advanced enough to have a strong grasp of what I'm reading re: biographies and things like that, especially. But he has some great songs and I HIGHLY DOUBT anyone else would be using them.

Dear Barry White,

It started when I was put on hold calling Tier II at work.

Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe was playing. ...I was like...oh God. First, "Business Time" by Flight of the Conchords parodied that song which just amuses me to no end, and second, I immediately got the song stuck in my head for like a month straight.

I thought I was safe.

But then I logged into WoW.

And you were there.

Damn it.

How I feel:

Two things!

1.) THE UNWRITTEN MEME: Comment with a fandom/pairing, I'll tell you the story I've been dying to write.

2.) This viddya/music. Yay Mama Cass. It's sad she's no longer with us, but at least her voice is still around to enjoy. :D

Oh, Alexander Rybak. How did I not know you existed until this week? :( I love all his stuff now. ALL OF IT.

I would just say "cute kid" but it turns out he's my age, so. Lawl. CUTE KID. This song is a really fun one, but the first I found was "Europe's Skies". "Fairy Tale" is fun. "13 Horses" is horribly depressing. The accept is endearing.

H-Holy fuck, this is the greatest thing EVER. Oh man this guy can sing fffff geesh. I really like his voice! I'm not a fan of most music not English (with a list of exceptions including Daniel Balavoine--French 80s singer) but hot damn. I can't even THINK in notes that high.

Also someone at work pointed out that Justin at work looks like Nicholas Cage. This is true. I will think of that every time I see him now. Lulz.

I have been obsessively watching ukulele videos on youtube all day. (Off and on. I think there was an attempt at a nap. I kept having these weird almost-dreams about shit that for some reason I thought was hilarious so I would snort like I was laughing but my body was confused and thought it was dying and I flailed all over the place, waking myself up. :|)

Anyway, my favorite thing about World of Warcraft was (my account is kaboomed for a while, so no WoW for me) the teamwork, and it's what I miss the most about being in a band. Luckily I still get some group effort stuff out of church (the music/singing), but still. Watching groups perform makes me go all ;_; NOSTALGIA!

That said Here's a ukulele orchestra rendition of It's a Heartache. I actually made an AMV for Rose of Versailles to that song, my preferred version is by Trick Pony. (Here it is!

That said, I found all kinds of fascinating covers and stuff today.

This was my favorite. It's just TOO cute, and it's my favorite Carpenter's song! <3333

Not my favorite cover of Take On Me, but upbeat and fun! This guy really gets into it:

-

Also if one more person favorites that old old InuYasha fanfiction I wrote I will weep. Because I know how bad they are.

and

and

and :(

but someone just favorited Parallels so I'm like :D yay

OH YEAH. My sister is as of this evening OFFICIALLY ENGAGED. Wedding for 12/12/12. XD!

THEY GROW UP SO FAST.

So against my better judgment, I have decided that my new ~dream~ is to play the ukulele. Okay, weird, right? But I used to be gifted at music back in the day (QQ) though just with the wrong instrument. Sorry, nobody cares about the clarinets. :(

Since it's been 10 years since I've touched my clarinet, I only have used sheet music to sight-read for singing, so...I can no longer read music very well.

Anyway, I am not a good singer, but the ukulele is so damned cool that you don't have to be great to be awesome while playing it. Which I'm cool with. I mean, I can usually sing "okay" but not "well". So there's that. I can hit notes but it's not like, "YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO HER SING" it's like, "She sings like a vampire" (according to my brother), or maybe like a man. I think my singing is deeper than my sister's boyfriend's. :|

So my sister brought her guitar back with her and I was practicing holding it and stuff, and it's got too wide a neck/it's just too big in general. I don't have small fingers, really-- out of all the women I worked with at Honda, I'd say I had the biggest hands, they told me I had orangutang hands, I mean wtf even-- more like thin and bony and old-looking hands. (That'd be the arthritis lawl.)

So I practiced the simple stuff and God my hands are sore. But since a ukulele is much smaller AND MUCH COOLER I think it's still my dream. I was always super fast on the uptake with music and memorizing music (for solos/concerts) so...-_- and I mean really, who doesn't love this viddya?

^I LOVE this song and admittedly it's amusing with the ukulele and not as serious as the real version is, but holy crap such a good song and so awesome. It inspired me and then I looked up how-to videos on youtube and the ukulele just looks like a ton of fun.

Not sure it's a bright idea because of the arthritis and tendinitis but... :( Want to anyway.
