I am so bored have this meme.

Leave a comment and, if I've read your writing, I'll tell you one thing I think is a strength and one thing I think is a weakness.

Then blah blah put this on your journal and stuff and other people will do it and it will circle around forever and get annoying.

Stolen from Lua: list the last sentence of your last 21 'fics.

Most recent first.

1. "I love you, too." (On Even Ground, FE13, Virion/Sully)
2. He knew she'd be back. (Crazy, FE7, Hector/Farina)
3. And if she cried, it was because she hadn't wanted it to end this way, with her knowing where to find so many others…but nobody else knowing how to find her. (Found, FE7, Farina)
4. He watched as the snow drifted over the name carved into the marble and wondered why he had only ever allowed her to be a pretty thought at the back of his mind when she could have been much more. (Pretty Thoughts, FE9/10, Janaff/Lucia)
5. "I will be back in three days at the most; hold all of my mail until I return." (The Letter, Tales of Symphonia, Regal, Raine)
6. And she waits. (Accorde, FE7, Huey + Florina)
7. "Sain," she asked, rubbing the comb against the white fur of her pegasus, "have you any brothers or sisters?" (While There's Still Time, FE7, Sain/Fiora)
8. "Saturday, then!" (Back to Normal, Dragonball Z, Gohan/Videl)
9. "It just is," she said, as if it explained everything. (Love Is, Rose of Versailles, Nanny)
10. "That's when your mother went out and bought me the tackiest unicorn lamp…" (In Loving Memory, FE7, Florina, Lilina, Hector, Farina)
11. And then he fainted. (Luck of the Draw, FE7, Mark)
12. It could mean exactly what it says. (Three Words, Harry Potter, Tonks/Remus)
13. And that's enough for now. (If Tomorrow, Harry Potter, Tonks/Remus)
14. "I know," she said with a genuinely affectionate smile, and squeezed his hand back. (A Comfortable Sort of Love, FE7, Hector/Lyn, Hector/Florina, Hector/Farina, Hector/Serra)
15. She knows the next word she will utter will be hello. (Hello, FE7, Florina/lots of people)
16. "I am as well," he admitted, flopping down wearily. (Not Just for Show, FE7, Kent/Lyn + Sain)
17. Instead, his fingers squeeze her shoulder reassuringly, and she leans into him, and they both watch the world around them, waiting for the rain to stop so that they can move on. (Waiting for the Rain, FE7, Kent/Lyn)
18. "The best part," he said solemnly as he urged Wil to follow him as he lapped Caelin, "is that it's completely true." (Easy As One, Two, Three, FE7, Wallace, Hassar, Wil)
19. She traces the outline of her daughter's smile, and marvels at how the lines in Remus's face seem to disappear when his arms wrap around his new wife, and she sets the photograph down and turns away with a quiet, unheard whisper: "It should have been me." (Should Have Been, Harry Potter, Andromeda Tonks, Remus/Nymphadora)
20. The other students had spent weeks wondering what shape their own Patronus would take when they finally managed to make a corporeal one, and there had been wagering and discussion on the matter, but Teddy had known all along what shape his would take, and he grinned to see the silvery light take on the loping gait of a wolf. (Parallels, Harry Potter, Teddy Lupin)
21. "Whatever would you and Lord Hector do without me?" (All Or Nothing, FE7/6, Serra/Oswin)

Thoughts: I don't know how to end anything. I just make shit up and hope it sounds good. I have a lot of short ending sentences, which I admit I didn't really expect, though I have to admit that most of them aren't as short as a person would think--for example, "On Even Ground" has two lines that go with/are connected to that final line. So it's not like I ended it suddenly with an, "I love you, too."

Interesting meme.

I do love me some memes. Filched from Mark:

Send me a character name and I’ll tell you:

My first impressions of them.
What I think of their design.
What I think of their role in the story.
What I think of their interactions with other characters.
My favorite aspect of the character overall.
What could have been improved or changed with regards to the character.
My number one wish for this character.

Pick from: FE7, FE9/10, FE13, Tales of Symphonia, and the various anime series'/TV shows I've talked about.

Pick as many as you want but for the love of God don't make me babble about a character if you actually don't give a fuck. ;)

Post the first lines of your last 21 fics.

Ganked from Ammie and Lua. :)

1. She first knew that there was a problem when she found herself unable to sleep at night—not properly, anyway, because she'd lie there half-dreaming for hours. (FE13-- On Even Ground)

2. The pegasus gave her away. (FE7-- More Than Words)

3. Hector approached Farina cautiously. (FE7-- Crazy)

4. Lucius ran a small orphanage in Araphen. (FE7-- Found)

5. A quarter of a century was such a short span of time that Janaff found it hard to believe that a beorc might only live through three such periods before dying. (FE9/10-- Pretty Thoughts)

6. At first glance, it looked like any other letter Lloyd Irving had sent her. (Tales of Symphonia-- The Letter)

7. Huey is born on a cold winter morning in Ilia. (FE7-- Accorde ChVI: Friendship)

8. Had Fiora been born in a privileged time, she might have been the type to organize, to plan for the future. (FE7-- While There's Still Time)

9. With the defeat of Majin Buu out of the way, things in Satan City returned to normal. (Dragonball Z-- Back to Normal)

10. The news reached the de Jarjayes mansion two days after the deaths of its youngest two occupants. (Rose of Versailles-- Love Is)

11. "Have you ever felt like…maybe you were doing something you weren't meant to do?" (FE7-- In Loving Memory)

12. Valor had changed. (FE7-- Luck of the Draw)

13. Too old. (Harry Potter-- Three Words)

14. She knows she's said something wrong by the look on his face. (Harry Potter-- If Tomorrow)

15. She was cute. (FE7-- A Comfortable Sort of Love)

16. It's not a simple word for her to say, hello, a greeting like any other, a short, quiet word, quite like "greetings" or "salutations" but much shorter, easier to say. (FE7-- Hello)

17. "Let me give you a word of advice. It would never work." (FE7-- Not Just for Show)

18. "Are you okay?" (FE7-- Waiting for the Rain)

19. Once upon a time there lived a stout man whose head was as hairless as a baby's bum and whose sense of adventure was unrivaled by all but his closest friend, Sir Hassar. (FE7-- Easy as One, Two, Three)

20. Nymphadora is dead. (Harry Potter-- Should Have Been)

21. Teddy Lupin had never really wondered about his parents. (Harry Potter-- Parallels)

Conclusions: I write a lot of long or short sentences, but not a lot of in-between sentences. I don't fucking know. Why am I doing this? At least I can see I don't start every sentence the same way, I guess. HAHAHA.

Okay, let's play the truth/lies game. Stolen from [personal profile] queenlua iirc. :D

For every two truths on this list, there's one lie.

Guess in the comments what the four lies are. I'll post the correct answers in a day or two.

Winners will get the honor of knowing that they know me far too well. Or maybe a pony.

1.) The first story I ever wrote was about a dog.
2.) I dated a man 20 years older than me.
3.) My bra size is 32C.
4.) I've never ridden a horse.
5.) I considered an art degree my senior year of high school.
6.) A coworker once offered to pay for me to go to college.
7.) My cooking specialties are butterscotch pie and mashed potatoes.
8.) The Hackney Pony is my favorite horse breed.
9.) I obsessively played Roller Coaster Park Tycoon as a teen.
10.) I wanted to be a horse breeder when I was a teenager.
11.) I still have my childhood teddy bear on display.
12.) Gladiolas are my favorite flowers.

Doing the Tales of Symphonia 30-Day Meme thing.

1.Favorite Character

Raine Sage. ;)

I have a ton of reasons why, but basically I've always been able to identify with her the best of all of the cast. She puts up a really strong public face even when she has some deep-seated issues. She has things she can't seem to keep under wraps (her obsession/love for ancient things), but for the most part, she manages to present this really "together" person in front of everyone else--even other adults.

She's also a teacher, and since I've wanted to do that longer than just about any profession, that sort of drew me to her instantly. She takes no crap from anyone, she raised her brother (I half-raised my sister), she did what had to be done because it needed done. She stands up for what she believes in--and sometimes this is hard and she struggles to do it because of that very reason. She struggles with identity (I think) due to how she (we assume) was treated in the past and how her people are still being treated during the time the game takes place.

At the end of the day, she's a really badass but secretly insecure person. I think that's awesome because I feel in person it's so much easier to present a public face to the world that's pulled together while being SECRETLY scared or unsure or whatever.

Despite her radical fangirling over ruins/etc, she's a pretty stable, interesting character, and one that I can relate to on a personal level (for several reasons) I like her. :D

A lot.

Okay, some crap.

Comment here and I'll tell you what I love about your writing! <--If I haven't read your stuff before, leave me a link to a 'fic or something so I can read!

#2: That's right, I posted a Fire Emblem 'fic. WHAT EVEN. Sain/Fiora, etc etc, it's probably not very good, I'm too tired and bleh to edit it properly so it gets posted as-is lolz.

#3: This shit will never leave your head. It's just. Why did my brother link me this shit. Except for me to HEAR IT IN MY SLEEP ALL NIGHT. It's pretty funny, mostly in that some guy seriously had to come up with this idea and make it. It's Spongebob's random singing put into the Pokémon theme. My brother's been running around going DE DEP DEP DEP DEP DE ~DO~ for like two full days.

11 August 2012 @ 09:05 pm
Stolen from Kender who stole it from Myaru. All the stealin'. I said I'd post this, and I was sorta putting it off (because I'm a slacker), but then I saw something on on a random author's profile that sorta hit the nail on the head for me.

So, here we go. The short(er) version of what I need to write.

Part I: Setting

When I write at home, it must be quiet. In public there can be background noise, but silence is always my preferred audio (or lack thereof) of choice. I also like to talk to myself. It embarrasses me to read things aloud, but if I'm alone I do it because it can really help me get the feeling for the way a sentence reads.

I need something to drink, too-- and perhaps a snack of some kind. I find that if there is an excuse for me to get up, I'll take it. I'm a very lazy writer. (This is why it's strictly a hobby.)

I will never crack open my writing laptop (named "Kent") if I don't have a good chunk of time within which to devote to writing. I need at least 2-3 hours minimum before I'll feel it's worth the effort to open up and start up that computer.

Part II: The Writing Process

I can't start without an idea. Usually, when I get an idea, I let it roll around in my mind for a while. For this, I'll use an unposted (and unfinished) 'fic, Heroes Often Fail. I spent days and days mulling over the idea, the characters, et cetera. I even sent a PM to Kitty and asked her opinion on important plot points.

(NOTE: It's important for me to note here that I actually hate sharing my ideas, and this is because a.) it ruins the fun, and b.) it also means I've told the story so now I don't have to tell it anymore.)

Once my idea has solidified a bit more, I might make points on paper about it. Nothing is shinier than fresh notebooks! I love fresh notebooks, plain, colourful, with kitties on them-- whatever. So long as they're fresh and clean, that's all I care about.

For Heroes Often Fail, I printed off a chart of the lunar cycle for 1995 and 1996 in Britain. And I did a timeline through Book 5. Since HOF is an AU (AC, really), I had to try and weave my new idea in with the old.

Then, when I was finally done with all that, I sat down and tried to write it.

I usually don't hold onto completed 'fics for very long. Two days, tops. (With the exception of finished chaptered 'fics that I forget to post the rest of. -_-) I hate holding onto them because the longer I have them, the lest likely they are to get posted because I will find approximately 9,001 things wrong with them.

My actual writing process is pretty simple. I think about the idea, imagine the actual writing text in my mind, and then write it. A random person on FFN was suggesting that people go lay down somewhere and think about what it is they want to write like that-- and I've always done that. I usually do that before I go to sleep. Works pretty well. I also do the same in the car, but I find that spacing off is BAD.

Part III: Motivation and Inspiration

I'm motivated by a few things for fanfiction.

-What if?
-Ideas that sound fun.
-Ideas that I feel could be mind-blowingly awesome/that will really make people think.

And I'm inspired mostly by music. If I hear a sad song I'm 100% more likely to want to write. If I feel really moved or touched, or a personal connection with, a song, that helps, too. For example, Africa by Toto came on my iPod the other day and I was struck with a very firm nudge in the direction of a Lyndis 'fic.

Emotion is ALMOST ALWAYS my main driving force. In second place is my whacked sense of humor. People tell me I'm funny IRL now and again. I tend to use my sense of humor in writing, too, but oftentimes I find it doesn't translate to text very well, hence the lack of humor 'fics.

There's a lot a person can do with emotion, so I try really hard to use it to my advantage. The thing that Gets Me in TV shows, movies, etc-- the media-- are emotional stories, and usually not those of lovers. Love in general gets me every time. Hell, that dull episode of InuYasha where the little girl dies in the fire and her mom didn't know she was still in the house? SOBBBBBB. I get all ;_; over it. Why? FAMILY. The really funny thing is that I don't write a lot of family stuff, nor do I read it in fiction. (Nonfiction, though...)

I think relationships are the best thing that I can cover in writing and this isn't necessarily because I excel at it, but because it's something I can't help but write. So many people will tell you that two characters are friends--Sain and Kent, for example-- and they'll show you the TEEHEE silly aspect of their friendship, but never anything deeper. If someone does show something deeper, it's usually a romantic relationship, not a friendship. It's pretty rare to see friendships between ANYONE in fanfiction, and I find that really sad. I should remedy that. BUT IT'S SO MUCH WORK.

Anyway that's all for now. I did see a cute meme I can dig up for all the writers on the flist, though. :D I'll save it for later tonight.
01 August 2012 @ 10:38 pm
Stolen from Raina, who stole it from Tumblr:

The FanFiction Meme

1. How did you get interested in fanfiction?
I discovered DBZ fanfic while at the library once. A couple of years later when I had my own connection I read and reviewed anonymously, possibly under the penname "Butter", or "Kitty Whiskers" or something, but once I had my own account, I named it Kitten Kisses and stuck with it.

2. What was your first fandom? Your first OTP?
That's really hard to say. As a fanfiction WRITER, I actually started fanfiction for Digimon in a notebook before anything I actually typed out and posted, including my long (crappy) InuYasha fanfiction. But as a READER it was definitely DragonBall Z. And my first OTP I wrote was Sora/Tai from Digimon, though that never got published (however, InuYasha/Kagome was my first OTP to be written and later published). As a reader, Gohan/Videl was first.

3. Do you review all the fanfics you read, most, or do you prefer to read and move on? If you write, what’s the best review you’ve ever gotten? The worst?
I almost always review. If something was really boring or I backed out of the story, I probably won't review, but for the most part I do comment on what I've read. I've been telling myself that any comment > none at all, so I'm making a bigger effort to say something, even if it's not much.

I've gotten so many amazing reviews since I started writing, but my favorites will always be reviews from the Rose of Versailles fandom. The people there were all ESL (or third, or fourth, or more) and were bursting at the seams with introspective reviews. They were not afraid to say when they didn't understand something, and they also weren't afraid to quote every damn line you wrote that they liked, to admit they cried, or laughed, or were horrified at certain scenes/parts, and just... Agh. In my ~10 years of writing fanfiction, I've never had such dedicated, sweet reviewers.

4. Favorite AU to read? To write?
I love AUs! My favorite AUs are probably historic AUs (Mark's French Revolution AU for FE11, for example), but I have to say that if it's done well, any type of AU would appeal to me, so long as it still made sense/the characters were in character.

5. What’s your favorite genre to read? To write?
Low fantasy, medieval history, historic pieces, introspective or emotional pieces. I really don't have "a genre". I read and write whatever I find interesting at the time.

6. What are your biggest fanfiction pet peeves?
People who make characters OOC on purpose. Just. WHAT. Why? This is fanfiction. If I wanted someone who looked like Lyndis but acted nothing like her, I'd go read a book or something. Spelling, grammar, punctuation-- that can all be improved upon. But someone purposefully writing characters OOC? There's just no cure for stupidity.

7. Do you have any crackships?
Define "crack". No interaction within canon? Sure, how about Guy and Florina from FE7? Other than that, hell no. I don't like having to make shit up to make a pairing make even an ounce of sense.

8. Do you have any ships you don’t like or used to but don’t anymore?
Plenty. KentFiora is bleh to me for FE7, and I also really don't care for EliwoodLyndis. I used to REALLY like Sango/Miroku from InuYasha but lately I have to say it's hard to believe it's possible from the first 75% of the anime series. Miroku is a legitimate douchebag. I like him, but: douchebag.

9. Are there any kinks you love to read? Any you avoid?
I'm pretty much the opposite of kinky, i.e., I'm vanilla. But technically I guess a kink could entail anything in particular that you just really like to see, in which case, AUs, emotional pieces, and uhm... I do sorta dig hurt/comfort if it's done right.

10. Do you prefer to read fanfics in first, second, or third-person POVs? To write?
I actually prefer third-person. But I've read great 'fic in all points of view.

11. Do you read exclusively NC-17 fanfics, or will you read any rating?
I actually prefer not to read NC-17 rated 'fics unless there's an actual plot there. For most R/NC-17 'fics I've seen, they're just porny, which bores me to tears. WTB plot.

12. What’s the latest you’ve stayed up reading a fanfic? Writing one?
All night a few times. For both. Hello my NaNoWriMo 2008 project. And many great 'fics.

13. Is there a website you’re partial to when you search for fanfiction, or do you more read whatever you can get your hands on? When it comes to writing, is there a website you prefer to use for publishing your fanfics?
Pretty much just I have an AO3 account but I haven't posted anything to it. I'm debating on if I want to or not.

14. How long have you been “18”?
I turned 18 on July 26th, 2004. I've never felt the need to lie about my age.

15. Are there any plot ideas you want to either do or see someone else do?
Tons of them. Someone else please write my FE7 novelization. :/

16. Do you associate certain songs with certain ships or fanfics? If you could make a playlist for your OTP(s), which songs would be on there?
Aaaaabsolutely. Someday I will make a list. That said, "That Rock Won't Roll" is toootally Sain/Fiora in my mind.

17. Do you follow any RPs? Do you RP?
The only RPs I've done were Dressing Room RPs (Fire Emblem, Pokémon) and FE RP over AIM with [personal profile] sain + RoV RP over AIM with Xirysa. I don't follow any right now.

18. What’s on your fanfiction rec list?
Check out my fav's on FFN, most of them are recommendable, obviously.

Here's a meme for y'all. I don't remember where I saw this now so if I stole this from you...well let me know because I hate being so forgetful.

Basically the idea is this: Post a list of 'fics that have really "wowed" you over the years...with a link and an explanation as to why.

Fun, right? I think so!

These are not in any particular order.

22 for various fandoms under a cut! )

And a short little discussion thing here for the writers/artists on the flist. What 'fic/art that you've done is the one you're MOST proud of? Why? :D

05 July 2012 @ 11:18 pm
Sooo bored, so I'll try Samuraiter's idea of doing requests to get writing mojo going and also, everyone wins.

Remember this meme from over a year ago?

Write "My" Character
+ Comment to this post with your most-often written, most-headcanon'd, or favorite character.
+ I will respond with a short drabble focusing on that character.
+ Please repost this meme so I can see how you write "my" character!

If you don't have one you think of as "yours" that I might know, or you're not sure, feel free to leave it blank and I'll choose the character I associate with you.

Fire Emblem 6-10, Dragonball Z, Rose of Versailles only please. I can MAYBE try Harry Potter. (If you pick something else there's maybe a 20% change it'll happen.) Be sure to list your preferred pairings re: that character, also, just in case my idea leans toward it. ;)
01 July 2012 @ 09:42 am
Thing #1: Apparently the first 24 chapters of RoV were translated by someone? YAY. Here's a link. I can't vouch for its validity as far as the translation goes, since I haven't bothered to read it, but from the page or two I did look at, it seemed they did a good job.

Thing #2: The 100 Things Meme is beginning now. So.

Fire Emblem Headcanon 001: Wallace had two younger brothers who fought in the Caelin military-- and died fighting in it. In fact, this is partially where he gets the speech he gives Lyndis on anger for their supports. While this headcanon is completely unnecessary, I think it works out really well, and I have a lot more backstory for good ol' Wallace than I care to admit. He's a pretty great guy, so I think having him fleshed out only makes him seem better. He is pretty funny, but he's a looootttt more than comedic relief.

Thing #3: We got hit with that storm that swept through just about everywhere from Virginia to Michigan the other day. Power outages, trees down all over the place-- trees down on the FREEWAY in some areas-- and apparently some power outages will take two days to fix.

I got lucky because the power company said it could be two days, but it was back up within 10 hours. (Thank God, I really needed a shower and I didn't want to drive into work all gross.) But then midway through work my Internet took a nosedive, so I ended up going into work anyway. But at least I was clean.

The only damage my yard sustained was a tree limb down. Well, lots of tree limbs, since we have lots of trees. But the most notable one belonged to a 120-year-old maple tree. I heard this huge CRACK! sound and I just saw it fall out of the corner of my eye. My reaction was, "UHHH..."
because honestly, if it had been the other maple tree, the limb would have fallen on the house. -_- Luckily it was the one close to the road, and the limb fell straight off of the tree and didn't blow into the road.

(I think it's too heavy to blow anywhere, even though it did break it off of the tree. You can see in the pictures where it looks like the wood wasn't doing very well at the top anyway, which is probably why it was weak enough to be snapped off.)

Pictures? Shoar!

Pictures behind cut. )

So that was the excitement there. :P I'm tellin' ya, though, the wind was so bad it wasn't even funny. Our power came back on almost immediately (the 10-hour outage didn't happen until the next morning), but in-town they all have Dayton Power & Light, and DP&L could care less about a random town an hour away so they ALWAYS take their sweet time fixing an outage (obviously a huge city like Dayton is more important, derp). However, we in the rural areas tend to have Pioneer, which is 100x better and is usually back up and running very quickly. :D
29 June 2012 @ 12:37 am
I'm boooored. So have this mean stolen by half the f-list. You guys know the fandoms, pairings, etc. For this meme: Fire Emblem, Rose of Versialles, Dragonball Z *ONLY*.

Give me a character or pairing and one of the following words, and I will write you a drabble (OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT).

08 June 2012 @ 10:41 am
Give me a character and I'll tell youuuu:

•how I feel about them
•favourite scene
•otp for them (romantic or otherwise)
•my endgame of choice
•my response to fandom’s attitude towards them
